Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship.
At The Bath, Morecambe we are committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. When we embarked on this project, we were conscious that as a business we wanted to be greener.
We recognise the importance of protecting our planet for future generations and strive to implement eco-friendly practices throughout The Bath Rooms and The Bath Tap. Our dedication to sustainability is at the forefront of our operations and decisions as a small independent business.
Energy Efficiency & Climate consciousness
We are committed to reducing our energy consumption through the use of energy-efficient lighting, appliances, and heating systems. Our hotel is equipped with smart technology to monitor and manage energy use, so we can ensure unnecessary energy is not being used in rooms that aren’t occupied. We monitor bookings closely so when a last minute booking comes through, we can remotely turn on the heating in the room to make sure the guest is welcomed to a warm and cosy room.
During the stages of renovation, we extended the original building and installed solar panels on the roof, this generates most of our own renewable energy. The kitchen where we craft up our deli boards is also fully electric, powered by solar and supplemented by green energy tariff when needed.
Water Reduction
Did you know that millions of gallons of water is used every day to wash hotel towels and linen? In a bid to reduce our carbon footprint, we encourage guests to take part in our towel and linen reuse program to reduce water usage. This means that towels that are not specified as wanting to be replaced will simply be reused. Guests who are staying with us a little longer will have a full bed linen and towel change after every 3rd night of their stay.
We operate a one in and one out method for all of our laundry orders meaning whatever is used the exact amount is returned to us, we also aim for only one laundry delivery per week, meaning we are never over ordering and reducing on mileage and carbon emissions for deliveries.
Waste Reduction
We’ve implemented small but impactful changes to reduce our environmental footprint in terms of waste reduction.
Single-use plastics have been significantly reduced where possible, and we do not sell plastic bottled drinks at The Bath Tap and cannot be found in our rooms. Instead we favour canned, glass bottled, or draught alternatives.
We opt for eco-friendly products and packaging whenever possible, and our rooms used refillable bottles for toiletries, avoiding miniature plastics.
At The Bath Tap, we use eco-friendly and biodegradable straws, along with 100% recycled napkins.
We strive to minimise waste by implementing a comprehensive recycling programme with Cumbria Waste Management.
Local and Sustainable Sourcing
We are proud to support local businesses and suppliers by sourcing products as locally as possible, and work alongside breweries who share our environmental values.
We aim for at least 70% of our draught beers to be locally brewed within the North West and our taps feature cask ales and beers from just down the road in Lancaster, Cockerham and Galgate but also slightly further to Kendal, Bowness and Grange-over-Sands. All of our beers are delivered in reusable kegs,
This not only reduces the mileage the beer has to travel to us, reducing carbon emissions and helping the planet, but also supports local independent businesses and the local economy as a whole.
Eco-Friendly Transportation
To reduce our carbon footprint, we have provided a handy travel guide for all guests to use eco-friendly transportation options. We are conveniently located near public transport links, with Morecambe Train Station and Bus Station a short walk away, which encourages car-free stays.
The guide also highlights day trips and options further afield that can be reached using public transport such as to Lancaster, The Lakes, Manchester, Liverpool and even up to Scotland.
Additionally, we advocate for slow tourism by providing information on local walking and cycling routes to explore Morecambe sustainably, including popular bay walking trails and the Way of the Roses cycle route.
Our team are always happy to provide local recommendations that help support other Morecambe independent businesses which can be accessed on foot or via bicycle.
Continuous Improvement
Sustainability is a constant journey, and we are committed to continuously improving our environmental practices in the future. Even though we are a new independent business we will continue to consider and seek new ways that we can enhance our sustainability efforts.
We are very excited for the development of ‘Eden Project Morecambe’, and the impact the attraction will have on eco-tourism and sustainable practices. We intend to align ourselves with their values, and look to learn from them how we can continue to improve our practices to help shape Morecambe’s sustainability and climate education as a whole.
Thank you for supporting our commitment to sustainability at The Bath, Morecambe. Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment and create a better future for everyone.
